An analysis of a circadian rhythm of oviposition in Oncopeltus fasciatus.

چکیده
Several behavioural circadian rhythms have been described in Oncopeltus fasciatus, including daily cycles of mating, feeding, oviposition, flight, and general locomotor activity (Caldwell & Dingle, 1967; Dingle, 1968; Caldwell & Rankin, 1971). This insect is known to be migrant, and the temporal segregation of daily activities brought about by this temporal organization is adaptive in relation to its migratory strategy (Caldwell & Rankin, 1971). Mating and feeding occur primarily in the evening, beginning about 10 h after light onset, while in pre-reproductive individuals flight takes place in the afternoon between 5 and 10 h after light onset. When egg production begins, further flight is inhibited in the female, and oviposition occurs at this time (Dingle, 1968). Oviposition seemed most suitable for studying the physiological mechanisms underlying these rhythms because it is easily monitored and because one component, egg development, can be separated from another, the actual oviposition behaviour.

Background and aims : "circadian" is the changes of behavioral and metabolic activity during day and night in living organisms. The human body has circadian rhythm too, which is repeated every 24 hours. The aim of this study is to determine the validity and reliability of the 11Q of CTI questionnaire, according to Iranian workers society. Methods : Translation and cultural adaptation of CTI...
متن کاملEffect of an Antagonist of Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide on Biological Rhythm of Rest Activity in the Rat
Abstract Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide (VIP), has been found in different neurotransmitter systems and exists in various nerve tracts in the brain. Potential role of this peptide in physiological processes such as regulation of sleep and wakefulness, and biological rhythms has been confirmed in several reports. In the present research effects of intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of a...
متن کاملeven-skipped is not a pair-rule gene but has segmental and gap-like functions in Oncopeltus fasciatus, an intermediate germband insect.
The pair-rule gene even-skipped is required for the initiation of metameric pattern in Drosophila. But Drosophila segmentation is evolutionarily derived and is not representative of most insects. Therefore, in order to shed light on the evolution of insect segmentation, homologs of the pair-rule gene even-skipped have been studied in several insect taxa. However, most of these studies have repo...
متن کاملEffect of Eight Weeks of Endurance Training in Light and Dark Phases of Circadian Rhythm on the Oxidative Stress Index in Pancreas of Diabetic Mice
Introduction: Chronic hyperglycemia is associated with an increase in cellular damage due to oxidative stress in pancreatic tissue. The effect of exercise in different phases of the circadian cycle on protecting pancreatic tissue from oxidative stress in diabetic patients is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of endurance training in light and dark phase...

Oncopeltus fasciatus, Chemical Defence, Cardenolide Sequestration, Carrier-Mediated Uptake, Cardenolide Carrier Oncopeltus fasciatus (Hemiptera) is morphologically and physiologically adapted to seques ter cardiac glycosides for its chemical defence against predators. As a prerequisite for carde nolide utilization this bug has to take up and store the dietary cardenolides. Using isolated midg...
